No plan for new migrant transit camps in Kashmir: Govt | KNO

Srinagar, Feb 04 (KNO): The government on Wednesday said that no proposal is currently under consideration to establish additional migrant transit camps in the Kashmir Valley, even as 68 percent of the sanctioned accommodation units have been completed. Sharing details in the Legislative Assembly, the government, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO),informed that housing for Kashmiri migrant employees appointed under the Prime Minister's Package is being developed as permanent residential complexes, not temporary camps, under the PMDP-2015. A total of 6,000 transit accommodation units have been sanctioned across 20 locations in the Valley to meet the residential needs of migrant employees. As per official data, 4,096 units had been completed till December 31, 2025. In North Kashmir, 1,368 units have been sanctioned, with 1,104 completed. Key sites include Odina, Fatehpora, Kulangam and Natnoosa. In Central Kashmir, 1,608 units are planned, and 1,400 have been completed. Major locations include Kakanmaran, Sheikhpora, Babadaryadin, Wandhama and Zewan. In South Kashmir, 3,024 units are sanctioned, of which 1,592 have been completed so far. Prominent sites include Machbawan, Ranbirpora, Shangus, Vessu, Chowgam, Mirhama, Lethpora and Allowpora. The government added that these accommodations are being developed as planned residential complexes equipped with civic amenities and security arrangements to ensure safe and dignified living conditions for migrant employees—(KNO)
